Saving files in different formats helps you access them in other editing programs. For instance, saving a raster file as a vector enables you to manipulate with vector graphics programs such as Illustrator.

Photoshop has several Save As options that give users limitless editing opportunities and many ways to access the file.

Can Photoshop save as vector?

No, Photoshop cannot save files in vector format. If you are creating artwork from Photoshop, the closest you can get to saving vector files is to use shape and text layers and save it as a PDF. Photoshop has limited vector drawing capabilities because it is mainly a raster-based editor.

If you want to convert an image to a vector, you will have to use vector graphics software such as Illustrator or Inkscape using the image trace function.

Photoshop cannot save as SVG. The only way to achieve that is to open the image in Illustrator and save the file as an SVG file. However, you can export JPEG or PNG images as SVG with the Photoshop CC 2015 and later versions. To export as SVG, go to File > Export As > SVG > Export.

You can use Photoshop to save files as pdf. To do so, first, open your file in Photoshop and click File > Save As > Photoshop PDF > Save. You can use this method for files including .jpg, .gif, .png, .tif, .bmp, and .psd file formats.

Photoshop is not capable of saving as an AI file. However, if you are using the current Photoshop CC version, then save your document as .psd. To open as AI, you need the current Illustrator CC. WebP is a data-saving image format developed by Google. Currently, you cannot export or save a file as WebP image using Photoshop. However, you can download the Webp extension Plugin from the WebPShop.

How to save as WebP using Photoshop

  1. Download the WebP extension Plugin from the WebPShop.
  2. Copy the plugin file to the Photoshop installation folder and restart Photoshop.
  3. Now you can export or Save As WebP files using Photoshop.
  4. To save as a WebP file, open the file you want to save as WebP in Photoshop.
  5. Click on File and select Save As, then give a name and click on Save

Can Photoshop save as DNG

Digital NeGative image format is a digital file format that provides unprocessed RAW images and is an extension to the TIFF format compatible with TIFF-EP. You cannot directly save as DNG using Photoshop. However, you can first save it as a flattened TIFF file in Photoshop. Next, you open Camera Raw from Bridge and save it in Camera Raw as a DNG file.


In Photoshop, saving your file in the native PSD format preserves layers, filters, masks, and effects. However, PSD files are limited to few graphic programs, and therefore you cannot read such files with most image readers. Different file formats have different purposes.
